Nina Dobrev Talks Going Ombré and Her Summer Beauty Essentials

Upon locking eyes with actress Nina Dobrev during her brief pitstop in New York City, two things were immediately apparent. The first? She's just as gorgeous in person as she is onscreen in The Vampire Diaries. The second? She's...blonde!
"I went ombré," she explained with a laugh, twirling the ends of her hair. "I actually did it for a role. I'm filming a project called Final Girls, and it's the first time that I'm playing this sassy best friend."
So her slightly meaner-than-normal character required a little bit of bleach, huh? (Does this mean blondes are just having more fun at the expense of others?) "Riawna Capri does my color, and she's awesome," Nina said. "But honestly, this is more of an extreme change than I would have done normally. I got to play with it for fun, but I probably wouldn't have done it otherwise."
Accompanying her new ombré, though, was another something new. (And we're not exactly talking lipstick or eyeshadow here.) "Today, I've worn four different shades of color contacts," Nina said with a smile through her (artificial) hazel-green eyes. "What's funny is it doesn't seem like a big change. But I tried out some colors and I didn't feel like I was cheating myself. I felt like I was just enhancing what I had."
Nina likens switching up her contacts to dying her hair—why just stop at your strands? She insists the brand she's touting—Air Optix—is way better than anything you can find over the counter. "I was hesitant at first, but you do have to meet with a doctor to get the prescription. So I tried them out and they were really subtle. People can't tell for the most part!"
For the actress, the relatively small change gave her the confidence to be more adventurous with her fashion choices. "My stylist is always pushing me to make bolder statements," she explained. "And you can wear different patterns or shades to enhance a certain eye color. So, it's fun!"
And, since we're transitioning towards summer, more changes are on the horizon. "With the warmer weather in L.A., I've completely switched to tinted moisturizers with SPF. I have this AmorePacific Cushion Compact and it's incredible. I've also been wearing It Cosmetics CC Cream with SPF 50. I'm obsessed with it because it has a dewy finish."
But, despite her clear love for it, makeup doesn't fit into Nina's everyday lifestyle in Los Angeles. Amidst regular yoga classes, she also goes for outdoor runs and the occasional game of volleyball.
"What can I say? I like the sunshine. I go to a lot of beaches. I don't want to have to worry about mascara falling down my face! I like to just keep it simple." She does so with a couple quick coats of Benefit waterproof mascara, her daily dose of SPF, and she's out on the sand.

Blake Lively's Makeup Artist Shares Her Red Carpet Beauty Secrets

There are few girls who can incite instant envy quite like Blake Lively. The fashion world practically imploded every time she stepped onto a red carpet in Cannes this past week, and when she showed up at the Met Gala earlier this month in a gorgeous nude Gucci dress, we all took note: Blake is back.
And now that she's in front of the cameras yet again, it's high time we got some answers to the very important questions: What makes her skin look like that? What's her eyeliner secret? How come her lips are always the right shade of perfect, peachy pink?
To help us decode the mystery that is Blake Lively's beauty, we consulted the star's longtime makeup artist, Elaine Offers, who broke down her technique for us below.
The Face: "The night of the Met Gala, I prepped Blake's skin with a couple drops of Olie Biologique oil, and then followed with some Sircuit Secret Sauce Moisturizer. Afterwards, I used a tiny cream blending brush to buff a liquid foundation into her skin. Blake is known for her summer glow, so for most red carpet appearances, I'll add a bronzer. NARS's in Casino is great to bump up a tan, but I always follow up with a touch of L'Oréal pink blush for balance. After the complexion is completed, I'll finish with Mally Poreless Face Defender so she stays shine-free. It's made without powder, sets clear, minimizes pores, and completely mattifies. I love it."

The Eyes: "I always prime the eyelid using L'Oréal's base so Blake's shadows will last all night. I usually build her smoky eye just using a pencil! I start from the waterline, then elongate the eye upwards in an angular shape, sketching the whole time with the kohl. I blend it as I go, but I'm very generous with the application. The idea is to treat traditional eyeliner like a cream shadow. L'Oréal's kohl's are soft and blendable, so they're easy to work with, but once they set, they're budge-proof. Then, you can layer your shadows of choice. At the Met Gala, I used NARS's cream shadows on the lid, and then under the lower lash line for depth and dimension. I often like to rim Blake's waterline, usually with Urban Decay's pencils in light gold or a soft twinkling beige. But sometimes, dark colors really make a statement on her! Then, of course, you curl the lashes and apply your mascara. I always finish by defining the brows using Kevyn Aucoin's pencil in Warm Blonde."

The Lips: "Blake loves a glossy lip, and I prefer to use nude products that have a little bit of warmth. For her complexion, I like subtle peach and pink undertones because they make the lips neutral and healthy looking. Nude on its own can make you look washed out! Some of my favorites are NARS in Tasmania and Belize, Chantecaille in Charm, Kevyn Aucoin in Dahliana, and Tom Ford in Tawny Pink. At the Met, we went for a totally different look: matte and red! I actually just used NARS Lip Liner Pencil in Salsa that night."

Ok..so as per the claims the serum makes the skin more even and radiant and the cream hydrates and lightens (Not a fan of the lightening claim anyway)

I have been using a combination of these both from quite some time..2-3 weeks around. Both come in a pink packaging..the cream is a normal tub packaging and the serum is twist and pump out dispensor packaging..a few faced issues with the pump..so please check that if possible.

Light Creme is light pink in color.It has a floral baby powder kinda smell. Definitely tightens the skin. The cream provides some basic moisturisation..but also gives a tightening effect to the face. As the name suggests, its quite light in texture and smooth to apply.The serum is very light in texture and feels siliconey on application.. but quite water like and no greasiness or stickiness with it.

It gives a cooling minty sensation for a few minutes. I like how the skin looks smoother and fresh the next morning..I use this serum overnight and have been loving the effect on the face next morning.

I am not sure of the brightening and lightning claim..but it did help me reduce my tan a bit. I was also carrying it for my Beauty and The Blogger Show..and even with 3 hours of sleep, skin looked decent enough on all 3 days thanks to this!

It was travel friendly and easy to carry around..only the serum requires quite a few pumps at times for the product to dispense.

The cream is decently priced and it would last long too..the serum is priced a little on the higher side and would never be able to see the quantity left too.

I am not much a fan of the Light Creme..its a basic regular moisturising cream..but I quite loved the serum. Would definitely recommend the serum.

So we had Daniel Bauer with us at the American Swan Beauty & The Blogger..he demonstrated a few hairstyles on 3 of the models..and also gave us some tips and tricks..
Here my model Priyanka gets soft curls done with a pouf..a very easy and quick DIY hairstyle.
I have a step by step GIF for you guys..

So, basically what the hairstylist did was :
1. Created a pouf and pinned the hair behind with the help of bobby pins.
2. Curled the loose ends with a curling wand.
3. Kept a bang ahead to soften the face.
4. Set it with the TRESemme hold spray.

The Final Look

Steam Plant Shoot by Flawless Salon & Jerome Pollos

We knew the Steam Plant was going to be an incredible addition to the Spokane wedding venue options when we featured them a few weeks back. So when this  bridal inspiration shoot by Flawless Salon and Jerome Pollos landed in our inbox, we couldn’t wait to show you!

Here is the D.L. from organizer of the shoot, Amy, owner of Flawless Salon:

The motivation for this shoot was to show the transformation possible when working with professional hair and make up artists. Our model Emily is gorgeous without make up and in her everyday life she wears very little. However, most brides want to be the most gorgeous version of themselves on their wedding day, without feeling like they don’t recognize themselves. This is exactly what we set out to do, using different techniques.

First, our stylist Janay installed clip in extensions to add length and volume. This is a quick, easy, and affordable way to create a gorgeous Bridal style even if the Bride’s hair isn’t as thick or long as she would like it to be. After curling all the hair, she used a specialized “sewing” method which allows for a softer loose bridal style, which will hold throughout her wedding day. This method also uses less hairspray and minimal bobby pins for a more comfortable wedding day style. We were able to quickly transition her hair to a complete updo for her sophisticated black dress.

We used silicone based airbrush foundation to match her tanned skin. Airbrush foundation will last all day, even through heat, hugs, and tears. It provides a full coverage flawless finish, without a heavy make up feel. We always blend the Bride’s neck, chest, face and sometimes even the back and arms to create a seamless look. We played up her gorgeous blue-green eyes with a purple undertone eye shadow palette, and strip lashes. Many brides also like eye lash extensions for the wedding day. This ensures no mascara fails the day of the wedding and is great for minimal fuss during the honeymoon.

In this shoot we showcased three different dresses for different times of the wedding day celebration. Many brides are now wearing one dress for the ceremony, a more comfortable less restricting dress for the reception, and a slinky dress in a different color for after hours partying with close friends and family.

Gorgeous transformation and so much fun to work in such a unique wedding/reception venue and the amazing Jerome Pollos!

When Amy from Flawless approached me for the shoot, I was intrigued by the possibilities. After talking with Amy, owner of Flawless Salon in Coeur d’Alene, I knew this was going to be a fun session.

The look Flawless Salon wanted from the images were edgy, sophisticated, and a step back from the Pinterest-inspired burlap, lace and country themed imagery. The look Amy wanted was done with some dramatic lighting and working the architectural features at the Steam Plant into the images.

There’s so much texture and colors you wouldn’t normally see associated with a wedding in the Northwest. The metal and glasswork in the entry way, the dark, pipe-lined boardroom, metal staircases, large paneled windows, and brick walls all lent themselves to a very industrial, yet sophisticated feel.

I can’t wait for the opportunity to document a wedding at the Steam Plant.
